Winona Joins Trek Cast
Star to play Spock’s mother.
Another day, another Star Trek casting story. Hot on the heels of yesterday’s announcement that Bruce Greenwood has landed the role of Captain Pike, we’ve heard today that Winona Ryder has joined the production and is set to play… wait for it… Spock’s mother!
Didn’t see that one coming? According to Variety, she’ll be young and a Vulcan. If true, Trek devotees will have their heads as it goes against the established Trek lore in which Spock is the offspring of a Vulcan father, Sarek, and a human mother named Amanda Grayson. Of course, it could simply be that Variety got it wrong. Stay tuned.
Ryder made her name in the Nineties with roles in Edward Scissorhands, Dracula and Scorsese’s Age of Innocence.
